But before we go further, let’s learn about critical thinking:
What
are Critical Thinking Skills?
|
There are many definitions to critical thinking.
That’s to be expected. Critical thinking encompasses much of what we do when
using our brains.
Words like: reasoning, interpreting, observation
and more are used to describe critical thinking. Phrases are also used. Some
examples are: rational thinking, focused thinking, cognitive process, reflective
thought and informed opinions. Other phrases such as: analyzing and evaluating
information to derive a judgment are also used.
These are all good and descriptive words and
phrases for critical thinking. However, let’s ask the $100,000 question:
“What
useful things will critical thinking do for your child?”
|
There are three answers to that question.
1. To make informed decisions — Making
informed decisions is key in life. Your child has to decide on everything from
where to have tomorrows’ lunch, to what career to pursue. The more he/she are
able to tap into his/her experiences and knowledge the better his/her decisions
are.
2. To understand— Your child’s ability to
comprehend is another key element in his/her life. He/she is exposed to a wide
array of information on television, the Internet, books, magazines and people.
Understanding leads to opinions and decision
making. The better the understanding, the better he/she is able to make good
decisions.
3. To create, invent and discover — The
ability to create, invent and discover are human traits that exist in all of
us. We create beautiful art, writing, music and more. We invent things like the
light bulb, the computer and rockets. We discover things like E= MC2,
penicillin and DNA.
The ability to create, invent and discover all
require decision making. It is an integral part of each process. There are
decisions in choosing a project to pursue. Whatever endeavors your child
pursues, there are decisions along the path.
The Common Thread
Decision making is the common thread that weaves through the most useful things critical thinking will do for your child. It is the primary objective of this eBook critical thinking keys training course. That is why we will define critical thinking as follows:
Critical Thinking is the ability to
make and carry out informed decisions by effectively using lifetime
knowledge, experience, common sense, reasoning, intuition, feelings, and
confidence. ~ Chuck Clayton
|
Your child is lacking on the experience part of the
equation at this point in life. That is why the course addresses practical life
examples in the eBook.
The workbook reinforces the concepts learned in the
book and provides real life examples for your child to work.
A “secondary” objective of this eBook critical
thinking keys training course is to teach critical thinking concepts useful for
understanding any worthwhile subject.
As an added bonus your child will learn how to use
critical thinking skills to create an exciting future for himself/herself.
Critical thinking requires the use of
self-discipline and self-examination. The rewards are great freedom and the
ability to complete projects, achieve objectives and answer questions with
confidence.
When your child takes charge of his/her mind using
critical thinking and making sound decisions, he/she will take charge of
his/her life!

You probably read this on some sort of computing device:
Such things need maintenance. There is a totally inappropriate
sexist joke, in some quarters, about a little old 'person'' who wondered why
the car would not go. When asked about when maintenance was last done -
"What is
that?"

Personal experience:
Yes, I lost my most precious photos. Because I did not have them copied,
or backed up.
I now have them, (what I have left!!), copied, and backed up - I used:
Please back-up your precious documents - don't loose them, like I did.
And, please tell a friend - may save their .........
(The way it happened, wasn't even someone hacking! Some computer
"tech" was eliminating some old files from my computer - to help it
run faster. Bingo!! Photos gone!!!)
Concerning hacking.....
Did you know that there are now more than 220,000 new attempts to
interfere with computers, created every day. Most are destroyed pretty quickly.
BUT>>>>>>>>> NOT all of them
Made me rethink my computer protection.
It is now, not a question of "ïf" they will take out my
computer, it is a question of "when".........
So, I now use, and I recommend for you:
