Personal Experience: Quite a while ago, the "Scientific American" had an article on training animals. The essence was that if the behavior you want is rewarded within 0.5 of a second, then that action will tend to be repeated. (choose an action that is heading in the direction you want - obviously....) I had a half grown cat at the time. In half an hour I had taught it to beg - which it did for the rest of its life..............
